PK86517: OUTOFMEMORY ERROR IN JAX-WS CLIENTS WHEN THEY USE HTTP COOKIES

Error description

An OutOfMemory error occurs with 2 threads in a v7 client.  The
client is using HTTP Cookies.  The same client running on v6.1
with the Feature Pack for Web Services installed does not get
the OutOfMemory.  A heapdump is created when the OutOfMemory
occurs.

A WebSphere Application Server JAX-WS client using
HTTP cookies may get an (OOM) OutOfMemory error.

When the OutOfMemory error occurs a heapdump is produced.  The
heapdump indicates that there are a large number of
JAXWSProxyHandler and HTTPCookieManager objects.

Note that the FFDC logs indicate an OutOfMemory
condition, but the information in the logs may not
indicate the problem is in with the JAX-WS runtime.

Problem conclusion

Analysis of the heapdump indicates that a HashMap contains a
large number of entries.  Each of those entries contain
JAXWSProxyHandler and HTTPCookieManager.  Also, there are a
large number of JAXWSProxyHandler instances.

The JAX-WS runtime is corrected to remove the
JAXWSProxyHandler and HTTPCookieManager objects when they are
no longer needed.   This prevents the OutOfMemory error
from occurring when the JAX-WS client is using HTTP Cookies.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.5.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
