Error description

The WebSphere for z/OS V7 Application Server (WAS) is
accumulating files in the configuration file system
.../_dynacache/ directory for each restart of each
servant.  For example, here is a partial list of files:

These files are never reused or deleted, and eventually the
server will no longer start.  Performance may also be
impacted.

The customer expects these files to be cleaned up when
they are no longer needed.

After each servant restart, a new ExtensionRegistry cache file
is created in the dynacache directory. These files are never
deleted.

Problem conclusion

A code change was made which introduces a new property in the
extension registry properties file. After applying the patch,
add the following to the server's extension registry
properties file: disable.dynacache.offload=true
This will disable the creation of the cache files. If the
property does not exist, it will default to false, and the
previous functionality will remain unchanged.

APAR PK86949 requires changes to documentation.

The topic "Disk cache infrastructure enhancements" will
be updated to include the following description of how to
disable the creation of ExtensionRegistry cache files:

Disabling the creation of ExtensionRegistry cache files.

Whenever a servant restarts, a new ExtensionRegistry cache
file is created in the dynacache directory. These files
keep accumulating because they are never deleted. If you
do not need the data that is collected in these cache files,
you can add the disable.dynacache.offload property to the
extension registry properties file for a server, and set
the value of the property to true. Setting this property
to true disables the creation of ExtensionRegistry cache
files for that server. The extension registry properties
file is located at the server configuration level under
each profile:

profile_home/config/cells/cell_name/nodes/node_name
      /servers/server_name/extensionregistry.properties

APAR PK86949 is currently targeted for inclusion in
Service Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.7 of WebSphere
Application Server.
