Error description

Problem Descp:-The issue shows up during both clean
installation on a linux system and during a reinstallation. The
whole thing is that installation starts, goes up to about
80-something percent, and then fails with an error described as
a problem with creating default profile due to trailing dot in
a hostname. I have tried to restart the installation, uninstall
and install again with different hostname (both short name and
fqdn) and finally install from a scratch after rolling back to
a clean system snapshot and it shows up each time I try. In
other words I end up with the same issue no matter if I install
on a new system or after uninstalling the failing instance.
Apart from installing on SLES 10 64-bit I tried CentOS 5.3
64-bit with the same result.

Local fix

The issue lies in the host name validation class, it allows
trailing periods but for some reason does not like the top
level name to terminate with a dash followed by an alphanumeri
character. The validator also allows hostnames of the form
"hostname-" which also needs to be corrected. So code change
will be needed.

Problem conclusion

Profile creation now accepts host names that contain dashes in
labels that begin and end with alphanumeric characters.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.1.0.27 and 7.0.0.7. Please refer to the Recommended
