Error description

When running WebSphere Application Server, the server may run
out of native memory in the long run. In this reported scenario,
the server (node agent) ran for 40 days before running out of
native memory.

The node agent abends with the below symptoms.

When checked the native storage usage from the dump observed
that the server had 28KB left and the memory usage pattern was
below with the 36M element sizes using up the storage.

When browsed the Element storage addresses, the eye catcher
looked like the following.

We also found that the high private SP 249 key2 is filled with
storage allocations of x'1000' bytes in size.  The storage
areas contain BBO3BTCB and BBOOTRDI control blocks.

The controller address space ran out of memory causing a node
agent to ABEND 878 RSN=C followed with an ABEND 92A RSN=18.
The native BTCB and TRDI thread related structures are leaked
in subpool 249  key 2. Both the BTCB and TRDI have eyecatchers
identifying the  structures ("BBO3BTCB" and "BBOOTRDI").
These storage areas should be released when the thread
terminates.

Problem conclusion

Recovery code in bborrmc.plx and bborrmgr.plx were modified
to get control at every thread  termination to release the
BBO3BTCB and BBOOTRDI  control blocks.

APAR PK87937 is currently targeted for inclusion in
Service Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.27 of WebSphere
Application Server V6.1.
