APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When the application does not have ibm-webservicesclient-bnd.xmi
in its EAR file, it is auto generated while deploying.
But the generated ibm-webservicesclient-bnd.xmi does not
have the portQnameBindings element so you are unable to edit
override endpoint URL information from the Administrative
Console. As a result, you are unable to use the override
    endpoint URL function.

This happens only for JAX-WS Web Services.

    ****************************************************************
    For a JAX-WS Web services client, when a <service-ref>
entry is declared in the client deployment descriptor, the
JAX-WS runtime uses the <service-qname> element to locate the
    service.

If the <service-qname> element doees not exist, problems may
occur. For example, the endpoint URL override feature will
    not work.

    A <service-ref> might not have a <service-qname> if the
<service-ref> was automatically generated during deployment.

The root of the problem is the web service engine should be
able to automatically find the service QName even if the
    <service-qname> is absent.

Problem conclusion

  • The Web services runtime is fixed to get the service QName
from the WSDL file. The WSDL file contains one or more
service elements, each define a different QName. If the WSDL
file contains only one service, then the runtime will use that
service QName. If the WSDL file contains more than one
service, then the customer is required (by the JSR 109
specification) to provide a <serivce-qname> element.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.7. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
