Error description

The following RMI/IIOP request timeout setting was set through
the Administrative Console on a WebSphere z/OS server,

Servers > Application Servers > server_name > Containter
service > ORB Service > Request Timeout > 180

This should set the request timeout for outbound RMI/IIOP calls
to 180 sec. This does not take effect when the object is not a
z/OS object. In this case the remote object was on a WebSphere
distributed server. This apar will address this issue.

A ClassCastException is thrown when processing the Request
Timeout alarm when the target object is not a z/OS object.
This exception causes the alarm processing to exit and thus
disables the Request Timeout function (the alarm value is
defined by the com.ibm.CORBA.RequestTimeout property).

The NullPointerException from printProperties is caused by an
unexpected null property value.

Problem conclusion

Code has been modified in the Request Timeout path to check
the type of the target Object prior to extracting information.

Code has been modified in the printProperties method to handle
a null property value.


APAR PK91571 is currently targeted for inclusion in
Service Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.29 of WebSphere
Application Server V6.1
