Error description

A customer running performance testing noticed that marshaling
of JAX-WS outbound messages was slightly slower in some
scenarios.

The JAX-WS client or server endpoint may be bound to a
particular soap style and use.  Examples include:
  * Document/Literal (Wrapped)
  * Document/Literal (Bare)
  * RPC/Literal

The most common style and use is "Document/Literal (Wrapped)"

When this style is used, the client's application normally
contains JAX-B beans that represent the web methods.  These
beans are called "wrapper beans".  The "wrapper beans" are
normally constructed during development when the customer uses
the wsimport tool.

The JAX-WS runtime will accept web service applications that
are packaged with or without "wrapper beans".

A customer running a performance test noticed that if the
"wrapper beans" were not present in the application, the
JAX-WS engine was slightly slower.

Problem conclusion

For the best performance, IBM recommends the use of "wrapper
beans".  These "wrapper beans" are automatically generated by
the wsimport tool.

A small change was made to the JAX-WS engine to allow better
performance for applications that lack "wrapper beans".  The
JAX-WS marshaling algorithm associated with writing the
message was changed to use a common algorithm for both the
"wrapper bean" and "no wrapper bean" cases.  This improved the
marshaling performance.


The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.9.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
