Error description

In WebSphere Application Server version 7.0.0.3 test server
within Rational Application Developer version 7.5.3
environment, Security Roles that are defined within the Assembly
Descriptor section of the ejb-jar.xml Deployment Descriptor file
where the corresponding EJB are defined via Java Annotations are
not being processed correctly.  Transaction attributes defined
in the same way are being ignored.

Local fix

Either specify the Security Roles and EJB definitions both in
either XML or via Java Annotations. The problem only occurs
when the EJB's are defined via Annotations and the Security
Roles via XML.

Defining Enterprise Java Bean security information --
method security roles and transaction attributes --
in a deployment descriptor file (META-INF/ejb-jar.xml), while
defining Enterprise Java Bean in annotations, causes a loss of
the security information for those Enterprise Java Beans.

This problem is specific to the placement of Enterprise Java
Bean definitions in annotations.  When the Enterprise Java Bean
definitions are placed the deployment descriptor
(META-INF/ejb-jar.xml) along with the security information
this problem does not occur.

Problem conclusion

The problem occurred because the deployment descriptor, which
contains the security information, is processed before the
annotations data, which contains the Enterprise Java Bean
definitions, is processed.  The security information is linked
to the Enterprise Java Bean data by reference.

The problem was fixed by a code change that allows the
references from the security information to the Enterprise
Java Beans to be retained even before the Enterprise Java
Beans are defined.  The references were changed to be resolved
on-demand.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion
in the IBM &#130; &#174; WebSphere &#130; &#174; Application Server V6.1 Feature Pac
for Enterprise Java Beans 3.0 Fix Pack 6.1.0.31 and the IBM &#130; &#174;
WebSphere &#130; &#174; Application Server V7.0 Fix Pack 7.0.0.9.  Please

Temporary fix

This problem may be avoided by moving Enterprise Java Bean
definitions from annotations to the deployment descriptor
(META-INF/ejb-jar.xml).
