Error description
WebSphere Application Server V6.0 Network Deployment edition running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 operating system A large hashmap referencing large character arrays is consuming the heap, resulting in OutOfMemory occurrences. The large character arrays are referenced by: org.apache.jasper.runtime.BodyContentImpl
Local fix
Set minimum WebContainer threadpool size equal to the maximum WebContainer thread pool size.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server version * * 6.1 and 7.0 users of JavaServer Pages (JSP) * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A large tag body can result in a * * large amount of heap memory being * * consumed. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The BodyContent buffers of a JSP's tag bodies are reused in order to optimize the performance. However, if the size of a tag body is beyond the default BodyContent buffer size, the BodyContent buffer is resized to accommodate the tag body but is not reset to the default size after serving a request. As a result, the heap memory that is used by org.apache.jasper.runtime.BodyContentImpl might be increased over time. The default BodyContent buffer size is 512 bytes which is configurable via a WebContainer custom property BodyContentBuffSize = <integer>
Problem conclusion
The JSP Container was modified to deallocate any large BodyContent buffer and create a new one of the default size. A WebContainer custom property needs to be set to enable this behavior: com.ibm.ws.jsp.limitBuffer = true (default is false) Please refer to the following technote for instructions on enabling WebContainer custom properties: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rss=180&uid=swg21284395 The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpacks 6.1.0.29 and 7.0.0.9 Please refer to the recommended updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
