Error description
A customer migrated an application containing a large number of JAX-RPC web services from WebSphere Application Server V5.1 to V6.1. The customer discovered that the application running on the V6.1 WebSphere Application Server required more memory. The HeapAnalyzer tool was used to analyze the phd files. The analysis revealed that the application on the V6.1 WebSphere Application Server contained a large number of com.ibm.ws.webservices.metadata.ClientServiceMetaData objects. The objects were the owners of a large number of WSDL DefinitionImpl objects. The WSDL DefinitionImpl objects required over 130M of memory.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.1 and * * V7.0 users of JAX-RPC * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: High memory usage of WSDL * * DefinitionImpl objects in a JAX-RPC * * application * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Intall a fixpack containing this APAR * **************************************************************** A customer migrated an application containing a large number of JAX-RPC web services from WebSphere Application Server V5.1 to V6.1.
Problem conclusion
Changes are made in the JAX-RPC runtime to use soft references to WSDL DefinitionImpl objects. These soft references allow the runtime to purge and recreate the objects, thus avoiding high memory usage. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 6.1.0.33, 7.0.0.13.
