Error description

  • A SOAPException may occur in the following scenario:
    1) The customer is running a Service Component Architecture
    (SCA) application, and
       2) The SCA application uses a Web Service binding, and
       3) The WSDL associated with the Web Service has a
    style="rpc" and a use="encoding".

    Here is an example error:

Problem conclusion

  • The SCA engine uses the WebSphere Application Server JAX-RPC
engine to read the incoming SOAP message. The JAX-RPC engine
has the choice of either transforming the message according to
the rpc/encoding designation, or simply passing the raw
message to the calling engine (SCA). In this failing
scenario, the JAX-RPC engine is inadvertently transforming the
message. The SCA engine (RPCEncodedMediator) fails because it
is designed to receive a raw message.

The WebSphere Application Server JAX-RPC engine is changed to
detect this scenario and pass the raw message to the SCA engine.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.1.0.29 and 7.0.0.9. Please refer to the
