Error description
JMS connections created from WebSphere MQ messaging provider queue and topic connection factories that have a transport mode property of 'bindings then client' are not pooled on the z/OS platform if the createConnection() or createConnection(String, String) methods of the connection factory are used to created them.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the default messaging provider for * * IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0* **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: JMS connections created from * * WebSphere MQ queue and topic * * connection factories might not be * * pooled correctly * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** This issue only affects queue and topic connection factories where the transport mode is set to "Bindings, then client", and where a createConnection method is used to create connections. Connections created with the createQueueConnection or createTopicConnection methods are not affected. Symptoms include an additional performance overhead when creating connections and sessions, as a new WebSphere MQ connection is created each time createConnection is called. Monitoring the connection pool, or number of connections to WebSphere MQ, is likely to show the maximum number of connections configured for the connection pool have been established even on a system where a small number of connections are used concurrently. The problem is caused by an incorrect piece of state (a flag indicating whether the connection was created from a unified connection factory, or a queue/topic connection factory) being associated with each connection when it is created and placed in the pool. This incorrect state prevents the connections in the pool from being re-used when a request is made to create a new connection, as they do not match the criteria.
Problem conclusion
The fix for this APAR ensures the connections are created with the correct state, indicating whether they were created from a unified or queue/topic connection factory. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.7.
