Local fix

  • Increase the read time out in the HTTPChannel for the
    WCInboundDefault and the WCInboundDefaultSecure channel chains
    from the default of 60 seconds to 180 seconds.

    1. Click Servers > Server Types > WebSphere application servers
       >server_name. Then in the Container Settings section, click
       Web container Settings > Web container transport chains.
    2. Select the normal inbound chain for serving requests. This
       chain is typically called WCInboundDefault, and listens on
       port 9080.
    3. Click HTTP Inbound Channel (HTTP_2).
    4. Enter 120 for the Read Timeout.

    AND increase the timeout from the default of 5 to 20 for the
    ESInvalidator by defining the custom JVM Property:

    private.com.ibm.ws.cache.esi.ESIInvalidator.socket.timeout=20

    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wasinfo/v6r1/index.jsp?
    topic=/com.ibm.websphere.zseries.doc/info/zseries/ae/
    xrun_jvm.html

    Click System Administration > Application servers >
    Java and process management > Process definition > Control >
    Java

    Also set the timeout for the servant region.

    ****************************************************************
    During high performance situations responses from the plug-in
    may not be received or processed prior to channel and the ESI
    invalidator timeouts expiring. This causes the connection
    between the application server and plug-in to terminate and
    all ESI counters are reset.

Problem conclusion

  • Increasing channel and ESI invalidator timeouts will prevent
    delays in receiving responses from resetting ESI counters and
    keep the connection active.

    Increase the read time out in the HTTPChannel for the
    WCInboundDefault and the WCInboundDefaultSecure channel chains
    from the default of 60 seconds to 180 seconds. Increase the
    timeout from the default of 5 to 20 for the ESI invalidator by
    defining the custom JVM Property:

    private.com.ibm.ws.cache.esi.ESIInvalidator.socket.timeout=20

    APAR PK97780 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
    Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.31 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1.
