Error description

A customer deployed a JAX-WS client and a JAX-WS service on
the same instance of the WebSphere Application Server.  The
customer also enabled the 'enableInProcessConnections' property.

The response times from the JAX-WS web service were slower
than expected.  Analysis revealed that the JAX-WS web service
engine was creating (instead of reusing) JAXBContext objects.

A customer deployed a JAX-WS client and a JAX-WS service on
the same instance of the WebSphere Application Server.  The
customer also enabled the enableInProcessConnections property.

The response times from the JAX-WS web service were slower
than expected.  Performance profile analysis revealed
that the JAX-WS web service engine was creating (instead of
reusing) JAXBContext objects.

Problem conclusion

The JAX-WS web service engine constructs JAXBContext objects
to marshal and unmarshal the SOAP messages.  The creation of
these JAXBContect objects takes a lot of extra processing.
Therefore, the JAX-WS web service engine caches these objects
so that they can be reused.

Due to a malfunction in the cache algorithm, these JAXBContext
objects were being unnecessarily created.  The cache algorithm
has been corrected, which improved the response times.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.9.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
