Error description

If your J2EE Web Application deployed in WebSphere Application
Server V6.1 has a servlet with a request filter configured and
if "PMI Request metrics collection" is turned on you might
experience a java.lang.NullPointerException error in WebSphere
Application Server SystemOut.log and FFDC logs, such as:

This problem was discovered in WebSphere Application Server
V6.1.0.21

Local fix

You can disable "PMI Request metrics collection" to work-around
the problem. Here are instructions for disabling "PMI Request
metrics collection":

In WebSphere Application server navigate to:
.
Monitoring and Tuning > Request Matrix and than unchecking
"Prepare Servers for Request metrics collection" check box.

*                      using RequestMetrics collection is      *

When tracing and RequestMetrics collection are enabled,a
NullPointerException is seen from requestMetrics code. This is
due to the fact that the servlet invocation event doed not
contain the request related information.

Problem conclusion

Code has been changed such that RequestMetrics handles the
situation when the request data is not present in the event
notification.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 7.0.0.9 and 6.1.0.31.  Please refer to the
