Error description

  • An error may occur when all of the following conditions occur.
    1) A JAX-WS application uses a Dispatch<OMElement> API or
a Service Component Architecture (SCA) application
         uses a web service binding.
      2) The application invokes a web service.
      3) The web service responds with a message containing a
SOAP 1.1 or SOAP 1.2 Fault.

Here is an example error that may occur on the web service
application that receives the SOAP Fault:

    org.apache.axis2.jaxws.ExceptionFactory logRootCause stack:
    java.lang.ClassCastException:
    org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.OMSourcedElementImpl
    incompatible with org.apache.axiom.soap.SOAPFault
    at org.apache.axiom.soap.impl.llom.SOAPBodyImpl.getFault
    (SOAPBodyImpl.java:120)
    at org.apache.axis2.util.Utils.getInboundFaultFromMessageContext

An error may occur when all of the following conditions occur.
      1) A JAX-WS application uses a Dispatch<OMElement> API or
a Service Component Architecture (SCA) application
         uses a web service binding.
      2) The application invokes a web service.
      3) The web service responds with a message containing a
SOAP 1.1 or SOAP 1.2 Fault.

Here is an example error that may occur on the web service
application that receives the SOAP Fault:

    org.apache.axis2.jaxws.ExceptionFactory logRootCause stack:
    java.lang.ClassCastException:
    org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.OMSourcedElementImpl
    incompatible with org.apache.axiom.soap.SOAPFault
    at org.apache.axiom.soap.impl.llom.SOAPBodyImpl.getFault
    (SOAPBodyImpl.java:120)
    at org.apache.axis2.util.Utils.getInboundFaultFromMessageContext

The root of the problem is the JAX-WS engine is not
correctly unmarshaling the SOAP Fault in this scenario.

Problem conclusion

  • The JAX-WS engine uses a different flow path when the
Dispatch<OMElement> API is used. Some versions of the SCA
implementation within the WebSphere Process Server also use the
    Dispatch<OMElement> API.

Due to an error in the JAX-WS engine, SOAP Fault messages are
not unmarshaled correctly. The error listed in the Problem
Summary is the symptom seen by the customer.

The JAX-WS engine is changed to use the standard
unmarshaling algorithm flow when a SOAP Fault is detected.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.9. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
