Error description

  • If an incoming message to a JAX-RPC client or service is not
enclosed in a SOAP Envelope, the JAX-RPC runtime will issue
    an error like the following:

    org.xml.sax.SAXException: WSWS3066E: Error: Expected
'envelope' but found html Message being parsed:
     at
    com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.WebServicesFault.makeFault(WebServ
    icesFault.java:205)
     at
    com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.SOAPPart._getSOAPEnvelope(SOAPPart
    .java:1055)
     at
    com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.SOAPPart.getAsSOAPEnvelope(SOAPPar
    t.java:605)
     at
    com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.SOAPPart.getEnvelope(SOAPPart.java
    :633)
     at javax.xml.soap.SOAPMessage.getSOAPBody(SOAPMessage.java:269)
    ...
    Caused by: org.xml.sax.SAXException: WSWS3066E: Error:
    Expected 'envelope' but found html
     at
    com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.xmlsoap.builders.SOAPEnvelopeBuild
    er.startElement(SOAPEnvelopeBuilder.java:140)
    ...

The JAX-RPC runtime rejects such a message because it is not
compliant with the Web Services Interoperability
    Organization's Basic Profile 1.1 Specification, Rule R9980.

The user should see a message in the JVM log that immediately
    explains the error.

The JAX-RPC runtime rejects such a message because it is not
compliant with the Web Services Interoperability
    Organization's Basic Profile 1.1 Specification, Rule R9980.
The message should be in a SOAP Envelope.

The user should see a message in the JVM log that immediately
    explains the error.

Problem conclusion

  • The JAX-RPC runtime was fixed to report a message to the
JVM log explaining the reason behind the error:

WSWS393E: The message is enclosed in {...} tags. As stated in
the Basic Profile 1.1 Specification Rule R9980, the message
must be in a SOAP Envelope.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 6.1.0.31 and 7.0.0.11. Please refer to the
