Error description
In WS-Security for JAX-WS applications, when an X.509 token is used for Asymmetric message encryption, if a ReferenceList element appears outside the EncryptedKey in the SOAP security header, the message cannot be processed.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server V7.0 users * * of WS-Security enabled JAX-WS applications * * using X509 token for message protection * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: JAX-WS WS-Security cannot process * * SOAP messages that put the * * ReferenceList outside the * * EncryptedKey element * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fix pack that contains this APAR. * **************************************************************** In a scenario where X.509 Asymmetric binding is used for message encryption with WS-Security for JAX-WS applications, the ReferenceList element is required to be inside the EncryptedKey element. This requirement is too strict and causes interoperability failures with other vendors that do not follow the SHOULD recommendation of R3233 of BSP 1.1 profile.
Problem conclusion
The JAX-WS WS-Security code is been updated to allow the ReferenceList element to be outside the EncryptedKey element. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.9.
