Error description

After aplying the IBM Technolgy for Java SR6 PTFs on IBM i, a
user running Websphere Application Server version 7.0 scripts
for the first time will see the following java exception:

  Could not lock User prefs.Lock file access denied

This exception is benign and can be ignored.  On subsequent
calls to Websphere client scripts this java exception will not
be seen.

Local fix

As this java exception is benign and causes no funtional
problems and only occurs the first time a user calls a Websphere
client script after the IBM Technology for Java SR6 PTFs are
applied to your IBM i server, it can safely be ignored.

Websphere Application Server on IBM i swaps userProfiles from
the current user to QEJBSVR for a number of client scripts. In
the program that swaps userProfiles a call is also made to the
CHGAUT command to give QEJBSVR proper authorities to the
preference directories and files.  After applying the IBM
Technolgy for Java SR6 PTFs for IBM i, a race condition
surfaced that pevented the CHGAUT command for working on all
files in the preference directory structure. Java had created
the lock file in memory but had not forced it to disk before
the CHGAUT command was issued by WebSphere Application Server.

Problem conclusion

The fix was to force all files in memory to disk prior to
calling the CHGAUT command.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.9.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
