Error description

Using two back slashes in the Display Name of a Session
Initiation Protocol (SIP) message, for example "Pennsylvan1a\"
causes error code 400 on the browser. An error message is
logged in the in the WebSphere Application Server log:
"MessageConver 3 MessageConverter channelHeadersToJain Failed
parsing header: From jain.protocol.ip.sip.SipParseException:
Expected [<] but got index out of buffer"

*                      quoted string that ends with a          *
*                      double backslash.                       *

The problem occurs when the container receives a message with
a quoted string (such as a display name) that ends with
two backslash characters followed by the closing quotation
mark. For example, this is a valid From header field value:

From: "Alice\\" <sip:alice@atlanta.com>;tag=1928301774

Note the double quote at the end of the display name,
indicating an escaped backslash character.

Problem conclusion

The problem is fixed in the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
container. With this fix the parser accepts the
double backslash anywhere inside the quoted string.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.1.0.31 and 7.0.0.11.  Please refer to the
