Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 7 * * customers who have configured clusters but * * have disabled session persistence. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Request affinity may not be * * maintained if session persistence has * * been disabled in a cluster and the * * cluster members go down and up. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** If a request is served by a cluster member (say CM1) and then that cluster member goes down, the request is resent to another cluster member (say CM2). A new session is created by CM2. Currently when the cluster member (CM1) comes back the request fails over to CM1 from CM2. If session persistence has been disabled, the session created on CM2 is lost. This APAR prevents the second failover to occur by changing the routing information for newly created new sessions. In summary, this situation can only occur under the following 3 conditions: 1. A customer has configured a cluster 2. Has disabled session persistence. 3. Cluster members go down and up.
Problem conclusion
Code changes have been made in the session manager to introduce the behavior change documented above. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.11. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980 This APAR is not applicable to versions prior to V7.
