APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A WebSphere Application Server JAX-WS client application may
send a SAVE_CONNECTION HTTP header in the SOAP message. This
additional header is necessary to ensure proper processing
with the WebSphere Application Server hosting the JAX-WS web
    service.

This extra SAVE_CONNECTION header and the associated
processing is not necessary if the WebSphere Application
Server for the client and the WebSphere Application Server
hosting the web service are both at or above V7.0.0.3.
Avoiding the SAVE_CONNECTION processing may reduce the
    throughput time by 1%.

    ****************************************************************
A WebSphere Application Server JAX-WS client application may
send a SAVE_CONNECTION HTTP header in the SOAP message. This
additional header is necessary to ensure proper processing
with the WebSphere Application Server hosting the JAX-WS web
    service.

This extra SAVE_CONNECTION header and the associated
processing is not necessary if the WebSphere Application
Server for the client and the WebSphere Application Server
hosting the web service are both at or above V7.0.0.3.
Avoiding the SAVE_CONNECTION processing may reduce the
    throughput time by 1%.

The WebSphere Application Server sending a message must assume
that the target web service is not hosted on a V7.0.0.3
WebSphere Application Server. Therefore the current behavior
    is correct.

To avoid the SAVE_CONNECTION processing the customer must set
a new property (described in the Problem Conclusion).

Problem conclusion

  • The current behavior of the JAX-WS runtime is correct.

A Java Virtual Machine custom property is added to allow a
customer to disable the SAVE_CONNECTION HTTP header if extra
    performance is needed.

The name of the property is:
    com.ibm.websphere.webservices.transport.OPTIMIZE_HTTP_HEADERS
The values of the property are "true" and "false".
The default value of the property is "false".
This property should be set on the WebSphere Application
    hosting the JAX-WS client application.

Note: Customers must verify that the target WebSphere
Application Servers are at or above version 7.0.0.3 prior to
setting this property to true. Failure to follow this
guidance may lead to lost messages and unpredictable behavior.

For details on how to set a JVM property, refer to the article
"Java virtual machine custom properties" in the Information
Center for your WebSphere Application Server version and
    operating system.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.9. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
