Error description

Customer has configured VMM User Registry with LDAP and the User
Registry Bridge connected to RACF.

Each time a user logs in with an ID found in LDAP, the WebSphere
runtime issues message SECJ0353E. Since the server is very busy
performing logins for lots of users per minute, two effects are
observed:

(*) The server's SYSPRINT gets flooded with SECJ0353E messages
    which could fill the system SPOOL and cause an outage

(*) The server is slowed down by logging so many errors which
    are not really errors at all.

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The customer has configured Federated   *
*                      Repositories on z/OS with the User      *
*                      Registry Bridge connected to a SAF      *
*                      database. When looking up a user that   *
*                      does not exist in the SAF database but  *
*                      exists in a federated repository, a     *
*                      SECJ0353E error message and several     *
*                      ffdc's are generated.                   *

* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

The WebSphere code issues error messages and generates ffdc
entries when a user is not found in the Local OS, even though it
does exist in another of the federated repositories.

Problem conclusion

The WebSphere security code was corrected to only issue the
error messages and generate the ffdc entries when the Federated
Repositories registry is not configured.

APAR PM03161 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.31 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1.
