Error description
JPA Performance Improvements.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Under certain circumstances, Java * * Persistence API (JPA)scalability and * * performance is not optimal. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Two distinct problems are addressed by this APAR. The first is when an application is under heavy load there may be a large amount of lock contention with an internal JPA data structure. The second problem is that, in some cases, extra processing occurs when detaching JPA Entities.
Problem conclusion
Lock contention can be removed from the org.apache.openjpa.meta.MetaDataRepository (the internal JPA data structure) if all persistent types are listed in an application's persistence.xml file and the property "openjpa.MetaDataRepository=Preload=true" is specified for each persistence unit. Once those two conditions are met, all MetaData is eagerly loaded and locking is removed from the MetaDataRepository on application start up. This may result in a slightly longer application start time. The detach processing resulting from the closure of an EntityManager can be improved by setting the property "openjpa.Compatibility=reloadOnDetach=false" for each persistence unit. When this property is specified some of the detachment processing related to versioning will be skipped. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.9.
