Error description

  • When exporting an installed enterprise application using the
    Export button in the administrative console, or using wsadmin
    scripting, the generated EAR file does not contain some
    WebSphere Application Server stack product deployment files in
    the meta-inf/ibmconfig directory tree. The EAR file is
    therefore not usable to reliably reinstall the application for
    those stack products.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Exporting an application generates an EAR file which contains
    only a minimal set of files in the meta-inf/ibmconfig directory
    tree. As part of the export process all files found in this
    tree in the originally installed EAR file are removed. Only
    files which are part of the base WebSphere Application Server
    support for enhanced EAR content are correctly exported. Some
    files, for example sca-module-properties.xml, may also be
    incorrectly exported to the root directory in the EAR file. As
    a result, if the generated EAR file is used to reinstall the
    application, functionality of the application may be disabled or
    regressed and may cause incorrect output or runtime exceptions.

Problem conclusion

  • The export process has been updated to retain files in the
    meta-inf/ibmconfig tree found in the originally installed EAR
    file. In addition, where more recent versions of those files
    are found in the application's deployment metadata, the
    generated EAR file will contain the more recent version of the
    file. To enable this new export process, you must set the JVM
    property "exportAllApplicationData=true" for the server
    that your administrative console or wsadmin tool connect to or
    for the JVM that the export process is running in. By
    default, the property is not set.

    You can use the administrative console to set a JVM custom
    property and the steps for this task are:
    1> Connect to the console and navigate to the Java Virtual
    Machine Custom Properties panel, for example,
    For an application server named "server1", click "Server"
    > "Application servers" > "server1" > "Process Definition" >
    "Java Virtual Machine" > "Custom Properties".
    For a Deployment Manager Server, click "System
    administration" > "Deployment manager" > "Process Definition"
    > "Java Virtual Machine" > "Custom Properties"
    2> Click "New" to create the custom property;
    3> Fill the Name field with "exportAllApplicationData" and the
    Value field with "true";
    4> Click "Apply" and then save the change.

    If you run the export command using wsadmin tool in a local
    mode, you can set the JVM custom property using command line
    option:
    -javaoption "-DexportAllApplicationData=true"

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 6.1.0.31 and 7.0.0.11. Please refer to the
