Error description
Rational Application Developer uses this WebSphere Application Server code to establish an RMI connection via RMI from Rational Application Developer 7.5 to WebSphere Application Server V7.0 in order to issue administrative WebSphere Application Server administrative commands like installApplication, listApplications and also to launch admin scripts. Unfortunately, when the Rational Application Developer or customers code running within the JVM is calling the WebSphere Application Server API the current thread is interrupted by the RMIConnector. This has normally no effect since Rational Application Developer runs the action in a separate threads (Eclipse Job). When customers use the RMIConnector not within a thread but from the main Thread running Ant script, the Ant script is aborted. Rational Application Developer 7.5 ships the WebSphere Application Server V7.0 release code of RMIConnector. RMIConnectorClient#isAlive() method for the WebSphere Application Server RMI connector ends up calling Thread.interrupt() on whatever thread initiates the request to see if the RMI connection is alive (which happens a lot during server start, a server publish, or a server stop - hence why you see so many InterruptedExceptions in the JVM trace). Since the customer Ant tasks (i.e.their publish task) are written to run in the main thread then the WebSphere Application Server rmi connector ends up interrupting the main thread. As a result, any <exec> task that immediately follows a publish will (somehow) get interrupted.
Local fix
Use IPC instead of RMI
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Calling RMIConnector isAlive(timeout) * * may get the calling thread interrupted * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Current RMIConnector isAlive(timeout) uses sleep + interrupt to implement the timeout delay, opening a small window where the main thread may be interrupted.
Problem conclusion
The fix to this problem is to rewrite the isAlive(timeout) method and switch to using the thread wait-notify logic to implement the timeout delay. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.11.
