PM05390: HANG IN WEBSPHERE APPSERVER AFTER CLIENT CLOSES BROWSER IN THE MIDDLE OF A RESPONSE

Error description

When the client closes the browser in the middle of a response,
the Plug-in stops reading, which means the AppServer thread is
waiting to complete writing the response.   If enough of the
AppServer threads get into the state of waiting to complete
writing the response, the AppServer will hang because there will
be no threads available for other work.

The WebSphere Application Server Plugin recognizes when
the Client closes a connection and does not send a signal to
the WebSphere Application Server that the client has closed
the connection.  Therefore the WebSphere Application Server
goes into a wait state and gives the appearance of being hung.

Problem conclusion

Changed the code of the WebSphere Application Server Plugin to
signal the WebSphere Application Server that the client has
closed the connection.

APAR PM05390 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.31 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1.
