Error description
When the Node Agent is created the ports such as NODE_IPV6_MULTICAST_DISCOVERY_ADDRESS, NODE_MULTICAST_DISCOVERY_ADDRESS, NODE_DISCOVERY_ADDRESS, ORB_LISTENER_ADDRESS, ORB_SSL_LISTENER_ADDRESS, or NODE_MULTICAST_DISCOVERY_ADDRESS are listed as NamedEndPoints in the serverindex.xml file. For some of these NamedEndPoints a endPointRefs to the NamedEndPoint is created. When adding ports to the Node Agent which require a endPointRefs for the NamedEndPoint the endPointRefs is necessary but, not created. This can lead to NullPointerExceptions if a NamedEndPoint which has an endPointRefs is deleted and later added back.
Local fix
Do not delete a NamedEndPoint which has an endPointRefs if you will need to add this NamedEndPoint back.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application Server * V7.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Deleting some special endpoints and * * recreating the same endpoint can * * cause the server using that port to * * fail. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Creating an endpoint does not update endpoint reference in serverindex.xml file. If a endpoint reference is missing for DISCOVERY port, the nodeagent fails to start.
Problem conclusion
Modified code to create endpoint reference for special endpoints such as ORB_LISTENER, DISCOVERY_PORT, SSL_LISTENER ports when a new endpoint is created. APAR PM11212 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level 7.0.0.13 (Fix Pack) of WebSphere Application Server Please refer to URL: //www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=404&uid=swg27006970 for Fix Pack availability.
