PM13704: MIGRATION JOBS BBOWMG3* AND BBOW*POS CAN TIMEOUT WHEN MIGRATING LARGE DATA AMOUNTS

Error description

Migration jobs for Base, Deployment Manager (Dmgr)  and
Federated profiles can run a very long time if there is a large
amount of application related data to migrate.  This can apply
to any of the following jobs:  BBOWMG3B, BBOWMG3D, BBOWMG3F  and
BBOWBPOS, BBOWDPOS, BBOWFPOS .  This can lead to the job jobs
running out of time and failing.

Local fix

A new parameter can be added to a migration batch job. The new
parameter to add id:  TIME=1400
Here is an example line where the parm was added:
   //UPGRADE EXEC PGM=IKJEFT01,REGION=0M,COND=(4,LE),TIME=1440

Problem summary

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Migration jobs are ab-ended by the      *
*                      system when they exceed the alloted     *
*                      time allowed by the system per job.     *

The migration job end abruptly with no indication as to the
problem.  It was determined that the migration job was still
running but it had exceeded the time limit per job imposed by
the system, and therefore was terminated by the system.

Problem conclusion

The system is working as designed.  However, because of the
time needed to migrate topologies with many applications
the migration job itself must provide a system TIMEOUT
override value.  This APAR will provide that override value as
part of the BBOWxPOS Job generated by zMMT.

APAR PM13704 is currently targeted for inclusion in
Service Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.13 of WebSphere
Application Server for z/OS.  Refer to URL:
