Error description

A failure in the map method for a file channel causes the
position to be left in the incorrect place. This results in the
fail over from a mapped file to a non-mapped file recovery log
model to be incorrect. This results in an
LogIncompatibleException during the recovery log service startup
process.

Using a mapped file model a map method will be called on a
File Channel. This can fail and the error message:
"Mapping of recovery log file failed. Using non-mapped file."
will be produced. However, this can leave the File Channel
position in an undefined position.

Problem conclusion

The fail over process has been updated to reset the position
on the File Channel. This allows it to be read in correctly
the second time after a failure using a mapped file model. An
additional message: "Resetting file Channel position" will be
produced.

APAR PM14310 is currently targeted for inclusion in
Service Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.13 of WebSphere
Application Server
