Error description
When a Web service HTTPS default Policy Set is attached on the client, and configured with the HTTP Transport policy type in the default binding to send a user ID and password with the HTTP request, the provider (which requires authentication) may appear to ignore the authentication information provided in the request. The following messages and errors may be seen in this scenario: [5/3/10 10:28:29:140 EDT] 00000017 InvocationPat 3 Async response over separate channel ... Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0 JAX-WS Web services and Policy * * Sets * * * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: HTTP Policy Set values are not being * * respected for one-way Web service * * requests * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fixpack that contains this APAR * **************************************************************** Client-side outbound one-way JAX-WS Web service requests are being treated as asynchronous requests, causing unexpected behavior from provider-side Web services. For example, when a Web service request includes authentication information (username and password) provided by a Web service HTTP Policy Set, the response may be an HTTP 401 error, even though the authentication information is correct. The following stack trace may be seen this case: [5/3/10 10:28:29:468 EDT] 00000017 SOAPOverHTTPS 3 exception01 org.apache.axis2.AxisFault: HTTP ( 401 ) Unauthorized address : https://localhost:9443/OneWay/OneWayService at com.ibm.ws.websvcs.transport.http.SOAPOverHTTPSender.processStat usCode(SOAPOverHTTPSender.java:3510) at com.ibm.ws.websvcs.transport.http.SOAPOverHTTPSender.send(SOAPOv erHTTPSender.java:502) at com.ibm.ws.websvcs.transport.http.HTTPTransportSender.invoke(HTT PTransportSender.java:311) at org.apache.axis2.engine.AxisEngine.send(AxisEngine.java:452) at org.apache.axis2.description.OutOnlyAxisOperationClient.executeI mpl(OutOnlyAxisOperation.java:272) at org.apache.axis2.client.OperationClient.execute(OperationClient. java:163) at ... sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessor Impl.java:48) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethod AccessorImpl.java:37) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:600) ...
Problem conclusion
The root of the problem is that the Web service runtime did not detect a one-way request. It is changed to correctly detect such requests. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.13.
