PM15053: FILESTORE STORE FILE CAN BECOME CORRUPT ON CERTAIN FILESYSTEMS AND LOW PERFORMANCE DISKS

Error description

The Service Integration Bus Filestore store file can become
corrupt on certain filesystems.  The manifestation of the
corruption will be random but there will always be concurrent
message producers and consumers and the size of the store file
will have needed to be increased (from the minimum size) to
accomodate the number of messages in the system.

The manifestation of this problem will be some error reading
the Filestore store file.

On some filesystems, reading or writing a file at the same
time as resizing it using a single file handle
(java.io.RandomAccessFile) can result in corruption of the
file and garbage data being read.  This is specific to the
filesystem and the version of the Java Runtime Environment.

It is unlikely that any standard WebSphere Application Server
platforms will suffer from this problem, so please contact
IBM support if such a problem is observed. At the time this
APAR is closed, the problem has only been seen when using the
component upon which the file store is based within a
different product, on a single hardware/JRE combination that
is not supported for use with WebSphere Application Server.

Problem conclusion

The fix for this APAR prevents corruption from occurring on
the affected platforms, by using a separate file handle to
resize the file. The fix for this APAR does not correct
corruption within a file system

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.13.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
