Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0 with applications using Java * * Persistence API ( JPA ) Entity beans. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere Application Server * * applications using JPA Entity beans * * can experience IllegalStateExceptions * * under heavy load. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Under heavy load IllegalStateExceptions can occur in JPA applications. This is because the order in which the transaction service calls individual components for cleanup can be ordered. The EJBContainer was ordered such that it would clean up and pool resources prior to openJPA performing cleanup. So under heavy load it is possible that the EJBContainer could attempt to use a EJB instance from the pool prior to the appropriate JPA cleanup being performed.
Problem conclusion
The EJBContainer code has been altered so that it registers with the transaction service on the same "tier" as other components so that EJB instances will not be pooled and potentially re-used prior to other component's cleanup occurring. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.12.
