PM20485: The javax.xml.soap.SOAPConnection call method may throw an exception if the response SOAPMessage contains a SOAPFault

Error description

The javax.xml.soap.SOAPConnection interface provided by the
WebSphere Application Server provides a call method:

SOAPMessage call(SOAPMessage request, java.lang.Object to)

This method will send a SOAPMessage to the specified Web service
and return the response SOAPMessage.

In version 7, the call method will throw an exception if the
response SOAPMessage contains a SOAPFault.  This violates the
SOAP with Attachments API for Java (SAAJ) specification and
may cause migration problems for customers migrating from
prior versions of the WebSphere Application Server.

The javax.xml.soap.SOAPConnection interface provided by the
WebSphere Application Server provides a call method:

Problem conclusion

The Web Services runtime is changed to avoid throwing an
exception when a SOAPMessage contains a SOAPFault. This
behavior matches the SAAJ specification and matches the
behavior of prior WebSphere Application Server versions.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.15.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
