Error description
WebSphere Application Server v7.0.0.11 XMLStreamWriter is outputting the wrong value. The serializer is omitting a required namespace prefix as follows: <test xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" nil="true"></test> This causes the document to be invalid. The expected valid document should look like the following: <test xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:nil="true"></test>

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All IBM WebSphere Application Server V7.0 * * users of StAX, JAXB and JAX-WS. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: XMLStreamWriter is omitting required * * namespace prefixes. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fix pack that contains this APAR. * **************************************************************** When requested to serialize XML attributes the IBM XMLStreamWriter will omit required namespace prefixes if the application did not explicitly provide them. For example, the XMLStreamWriter would incorrectly write: <test xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" nil ></test> instead of: <test xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:nil="true"></test> Without the "xsi" prefix the "nil" attribute is not bound to the correct namespace.
Problem conclusion
When no prefix has been explicitly specified for an attribute, an XMLStreamWriter implementation is required to use its namespace context to determine a prefix to write. The IBM XMLStreamWriter was not performing this lookup and would always write the attribute without a prefix. This issue was fixed by adding a prefix lookup call to the namespace context within the XMLStreamWriter method which writes the attribute. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.15.
