Local fix
As a workaround, the following JVM custom property for the Servant Region can be set: Name : com.ibm.websphere.ejbcontainer.initializeEJBsAtStartup Value: true Please review more details below regarding this property: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wasinfo/v7r0/index.jsp? topic=/com.ibm.websphere.zseries.doc/info/zseries/ae/tejb_ecnt2. html
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Multi-threaded initialization of * * multiple EJBs within the same module * * may result in a NullPointerException * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The EJBContainer defers the initialization of EJBs until they are first used during runtime. When all EJBs for a module have been initialized, resources used for the initialization are cleaned up. In a multi-threaded environment there exists a window in which the last two EJBs in the module may be initialized simultaneously and both attempt to clean up the resources. This will result in the second attempt failing with the NullPointerException listed in the problem description of this APAR.
Problem conclusion
The EJBContainer code has been changed such that only one thread will be allowed to perform the resource cleanup once all EJBs within a module have been initialized. APAR PM21512 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.15 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
