Error description

  • When using the javax.xml.rpc.Call API to invoke web services,
    a JAX-RPC client may call the setTargetEndpointAddress()
    method. This method allows the client to specify a different
    target endpoint URL than what is described in the WSDL's
    soap:address location attribute.

    However, the JAX-RPC runtime might not honor this URL
    and instead, send the request to the URL given in the WSDL.

    ****************************************************************
    When using the javax.xml.rpc.Call API to invoke Web service,
    a JAX-RPC client may call the setTargetEndpointAddress()
    method. This method allows the client to specify a different
    target endpoint URL than what is described in the WSDL's
    soap:address location attribute.

    However, the JAX-RPC runtime might not honor this URL
    and instead, send the request to the URL given in the WSDL.

    For example, a client WSDL contains this:

    <service name="HelloWorldService">
     <port name="HelloWorldPort" binding="tns:HelloWorldBinding">
       <soap:address
        location="http://oldhost.ibm.com/Hello/HelloWorldService">

    And the client contains the following code:

         call.setTargetEndpointAddress
         ("http://newhost.ibm.com:9083/Example/HelloWorldService");

    The JAX-RPC runtime might send the request to
    http://oldhost.ibm.com/Hello/HelloWorldService.

    This incorrect behavior could manifest itself in a number of
    different ways, including (but not limited to) the client
    receiving HTTP 404 Not Found and java.net.ConnectException
    errors.

Problem conclusion

  • The JAX-RPC runtime was changed to detect the URL passed into
    javax.xml.rpc.Call.setTargetEndpointAddress().

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 6.1.0.35 and 7.0.0.15. Please refer to the
