Error description

  • A JAX-RPC service application might packages its WSDL file in a
subdirectory of WEB-INF\wsdl (for WAR modules) or
META-INF\wsdl (for EJB modules). If a user makes a ?wsdl
request from such a JAX-RPC service, the redirected URL might
contain backslash characters in the request URI.

For example, the HelloWorld.war module packages the
    HelloWorld.wsdl in the directory structure
    WEB-INF/wsdl/first/second/third.

When the user makes a ?wsdl request from this service, the
redirected URL in the web browser's address bar is

    http://myhost.ibm.com/Hello/HelloWorldServices/WEB-INF/
    first\second\third\HelloWorld.wsdl.

Some customers may fail to process URL's with backslash
    characters.

A JAX-RPC service application might packages its WSDL file in a
subdirectory of WEB-INF\wsdl (for WAR modules) or
META-INF\wsdl (for EJB modules). If a user makes a ?wsdl
request from such a JAX-RPC service, the redirected URL might
contain backslash characters in the request URI.

For example, the HelloWorld.war module packages the
    HelloWorld.wsdl in the directory structure
    WEB-INF/wsdl/first/second/third.

When the user makes a ?wsdl request from this service, the
redirected URL in the web browser's address bar is

    http://myhost.ibm.com/Hello/HelloWorldServices/WEB-INF/
    first\second\third\HelloWorld.wsdl.

Some customers may fail to process URL's with backslash
    characters.

Note that since UNIX operating system pathnames do not contain
backslash characters, this problem would only occur in a
    Microsoft Windows environment.

Problem conclusion

  • Request for Comment 1738: "Uniform Resource Locators (URL)"
describes backslash characters as unsafe for URL's. The
JAX-RPC runtime was changed to replace all instances of "\"
with "/" in redirected URL's for ?wsdl requests.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.1.0.37 and 7.0.0.15. Please refer to the
