Error description

Customer application runs in 64 bit mode on WebSphere
Application Server z/OS, and needs more than 100 worker threads
per Servant region.
There is a current property:  servant_region_custom_thread_count
which allows the number of worker threads to be set to a max of
100.  The customer is asking for this upper limit to be raised,
when running in 64 bit mode.

WebSphere Application Server for z/OS allows a maximum of 100
worker threads in a servant region using environment variable
servant_region_custom_thread_count. In 64-bit mode, some
customers might prefer to set this to a larger value.

Problem conclusion

In 64-bit mode, the maximum for environment variable
servant_region_custom_thread_count has been increased to 500.

APAR PM24633 requires changes to documentation.

The following Change to the WebSphere Application Server
Version 7.0 Information Center will be made available in
February 2011.

The description of the servant_region_custom_thread_count
custom property in the topics "Application server custom
properties for z/OS" and "ORB services advanced settings on
the z/OS platform" will be updated to indicate that starting
with Version 7.0.0.15, the range of values that can be
specified for this custom property is 1 - 500. For Versions
7.0.0.13 and earlier, the range of values is 1 - 100.

The following note will also be added to the description of
this custom property:

Best Practice: Before you specify a value greater than 100 in
a production environment, you should try the value in a test
environment to ensure you do not negatively affect performance.

APAR PM24633 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.15 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
