APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • In certain circumstances, filetransfer upload operations may
fail when variables are used in the source filename. For files
greater than 1 MB (1,048,567 bytes) in size, the upload may
appear to complete succesfully, but only the first megabyte of
the file will be uploaded. In other cases,
    FileTransferClientImpl may throw an IndexOutOfBoundsException,
indicating that the rangeStart, rangeEnd values are not valid,
with a 0 value for rangeEnd.

Note that this affects filetransfer uploads only. Filetransfer
    downloads are not affected.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server V7.0.0.13                            *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Filetransfer upload operations may *
    * fail in some circumstances. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The filetransfer upload operation may fail in certain
circumstances, due to the endRange of the file being computed
    incorrectly. Specifically, the filetransfer uploadFile
    operation may fail when:

    a) the file to be uploaded is referred to with a path
    containing a variable (for example,
    "${USER_INSTALL_ROOT}/profiles/AppSrv01/configtemp/myfile.txt"
    ), AND

    b) the file to be uploaded is greater than 1 MB (1,048,576
bytes) OR a startRange for the transfer is specified and is
greater than 0, and no endRange is specified.

In these situations, if the file is greater than 1 MB in size,
the upload operation may appear to succeed but only the first
1 MB of the file will be delivered.

If a non-zero startRange and no endRange is specified, the
    FileTransferClientImpl may throw an IndexOutOfBoundsException
indicating an invalid endRange value of 0.

WebSphere Application Server (particularly Network Deployment
edition) uses the filetransfer function for a variety of
    operations, including node synchronization, application
deployment, viewing log files, and webserver management. Based
on a review of the code, as well as testing of the product,
these functions should not be affected by this problem.

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been modified to correctly determine the endRange
and allow filetransfer upload operations to work correctly.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.15, and is also available as an interim fix
for fix pack 7.0.0.13. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
