APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Under some circumstances the fault details provided by a
    JAX-RPC application do not contain the root cause and it
    contains details of a later exception. This makes debug on
    the client more difficult.

Local fix

  • N/A.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All developers of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server V6.1 and V7.0 JAX-RPC applications.  *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The Fault details in the response *
    *                      from a JAX-RPC application do not       *
    * contain information of the original *
    *                      exception.                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fix pack which contains this APAR.*
    ****************************************************************
    The Fault details in the response do not contain information
    of the original exception. This can make problem
    determination more difficult if the developer does not have
    access to the logs from the service provider.

Problem conclusion

  • There is now a JVM property that can be set on the service
    provider that will loop though all the exception causes and
    concatenate the details into the Fault details in the response.

    The JVM property to enable this new behavior is:
    com.ibm.ws.webservices.appendRootCauseToWSF"

    The value of this property must be true to enable the new
    behavior and the default value is false.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 6.1.0.39 and 7.0.0.17. Please refer to the
