APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
When a Service Integration Bus messaging engine using a data store is starting up, it must access the tables in the database to establish an exclusive lock. During this period, if an Oracle database throws a SQLException with code "ORA-30006: resource busy; acquire with WAIT timeout expired", the messaging engine will generate an ffdc file with the exception text and fail to start. The SystemOut.log file will show error CWSIS1546I ("The messaging engine has lost an existing lock or failed to gain an initial lock on the data store").

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the default messaging provider for * * IBM WebSphere Application Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The messaging engine loses its lock * * on the SIBOWNER table when the * * database reports a transient error, * * and doesn't attempt to regain the lock. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When the messaging engine is running it will keep a lock on the SIBOWNER table to ensure exclusive access. If an SQLException occurs (other than a StaleConnectionConnection) then the messaging engine is stopped and will not regain its lock automatically. The messaging engine will also not fail over to any other server. In the case where the database is currently busy and can't service the request then messaging engine should still keep running until the database can service the request. This is different to a StaleConnectionException as in this scenario the connection is still valid. An example of a transient error from the database is the following from an Oracle database: ORA-30006: resource busy; acquire with WAIT timeout expired
Problem conclusion
This APAR allows the messaging engine to stay running when a transient error is received from the database. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 6.1.0.39 and 7.0.0.19.
