PM34097: EXCEPTION MESSAGE FOR INVALID USER NAME NOT PROPOGATED FROM VMM TO WEBSPHERE APPLICATION SERVER

Error description

When I try to authenticate with a not existing user on eWAS
(i.e. invalidUser), the following error is logged in
SystemOut.log:

SECJ0369E: Authentication failed when using LTPA. The exception
is <null>.

The cause of the error is "null".

With eWAS 6.1.0.23, the error logged was complete:

SECJ0369E: Authentication failed when using LTPA. The exception
is Authentication failed for user invalidUser with the following
error message Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.

On logging in with an incorrect user name, Virtual Member
Manager (VMM) raises the following exception:

CWWIM4537E No principal is found from the <User Name>
principal name

However, the exception message was not passed back to
WebSphere Application Server security. As a result the
exception raised by security was:

SECJ0369E: Authentication failed when using LTPA. The exception
is <null>.

Problem conclusion

The fix involved passing the exception message properly back to
WebSphere Application Server.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.1.0.39 and 7.0.0.19.  Please refer to the
