APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
A config action to update ivtApp.ear in profiles is run when WebSphere Application Server is updated. This action can fail due to extraneous warnings from it's running of the "manageprofiles" command. Normally the updateconfig.log should contain something like: "Operate on profile <PROFILE_NAME>" where <PROFILE_NAME> is the name of one of the profiles in the install. When this issue occurs, the message may occur with <PROFILE_NAME> replaced with extraneous messages. For some customers, this error occurred after applying maintenance for fix packs 7.0.0.11 through 7.0.0.15. The Deployment Manager started successfully, the the node agent did not start. The postinstaller step failed with the following in the error log: checkProfilePathReturnCode: Skipped because property 'was-profile-path-ok' set. checkProfilePathReturnCode: duration 0 seconds Exiting /var/WebSphere/V7R0/E/AppServer/properties/service/product/WebS phere/service/actions/660324.xml. Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V6.1 and V7.0 who encounter this * * error upon updating. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The fixpack config action to update * * ivtApp.ear does not operate correctly * * when manageprofiles output has * * extraneous messages * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The fixpack config action does not operate correctly when the "manageprofiles" command output contains extraneous messages. Such messages are sometimes beyond control of the "manageprofiles" command such as when caused by system libraries or the Java virtual machine.
Problem conclusion
The config action to update ivtApp.ear in profiles was updated to be more robust against this type of situation. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 6.1.0.41 and 7.0.0.19.
