Error description
Description Turning on the ExtendedHandshake flag in the plugin-cfg.xml, When it is true plugin will use internal uri HEAD /_WS/EH and sent it to Application server. Application server set Status code: 404 message and Plugin detect application server is down even though it is running Plugin logs will show the message as follows ---------------------------------------------------- TRACE: ws_common: websphereExtendedHandshake: Waiting for the extended handshake response TRACE: ExtendedHandshake-Response: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found ERROR: ws_common: websphereExtendedHandshake: failed to get 200 response, will not send request ERROR: ws_common: websphereGetStream: Extended handshake failed --------------------------------------------- Websphere logs will show the message as follows -------------------------------------- Webcontainer E com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.WebContainer handleRequest SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /_WS/EH has not been defined. ------------------------------------------------------
Local fix
Disable ExtendedHandshake flag in the plugin-cfg.xml
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server version * * 7.0 and 8.0 users of ExtendedHandShake. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A 404 response returns even though * * the application server and resource * * are available. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When the ExtendedHandShake option is enabled, the plugin sends a handshake request to check whether the application server is available before sending over the actual request. If the default host port of the application server is configured within certain port ranges, a 404 can be returned. It is because the WebContainer is using the wrong record from its virtual host mapping table.
Problem conclusion
The WebContainer code was modified to correct the order of the virtual host entries in its mapping table. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.19 and 8.0.0.1.
