Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All IBM WebSphere Application Server V7.0 * * and V8.0 users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Temporary directories created by OSGi * * are not always deleted sfter they are * * no longer needed, wasting disk space. * * These directories are located under: * * * * <PROFILE_HOME>/temp/osgi_instance_ * * location * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Normally, OSGi temporary directories are deleted after use by the shutdown hooks code running in each OSGi process; however, there are circumstances where these shutdown hooks are not run. An example where shutdown hooks are not run is when a server is terminated abnormally rather than by normal server shutdown mechanisms such as the stopServer command.
Problem conclusion
As part of fixpack installs, an OSGi script (osgiCfgInit) is run to "clean" the OSGi environment. Now, with this change, whenever the osgiCfgInit script is run, any OSGi temporary directories under <PROFILE_HOME>/temp/osgi_instance_location will be deleted. Users may also run osgiCfgInit manually at their discretion if they feel this temp space is growing to large. Note: all java processes must be shutdown when running the osgiCfgInit script manually. Since this fix is not available for V6.1 users, these directories must be deleted manually via normal operating system commands (all java processes must be stopped). The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.19 and 8.0.0.1.
