Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server Version *
    * 7.0 users of JavaServer Faces (JSF). *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The MyFaces 2.0 JSF implementation *
    * will not work on WebSphere *
    *                      Application Server Version 7.0.         *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0 currently does not
    allow for annotation injection and processing for the MyFaces
    2.0 JSF implementation.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere Application Server added a custom annotation
    provider to provide built in injection engine support. The
    provider code is packaged in a new jar file called
    WebSphere-MyFaces20-annotation-provider.jar, which is located
    in the <WAS_HOME>/optionalLibraries/IBM/JSFProviders directory.

    IBM does not provide a supported JSF 2.0 implementation for
    use with WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0,
    however the Annotation provider for the WebSphere Application
    Server injection and scanning that is necessary for using
    MyFaces 2.0 JSF is fully supported on tested levels of
    MyFaces. IBM will address any issues with the scanning and
    injection support in WebSphere Application Server if it is
    determine that it is not performing as per the specification.
    Any problems with MyFaces 2.0 JSF will need to be worked with
    the MyFaces Open Source Community: http://myfaces.apache.org/ .

    The current support has been tested with MyFaces 2.0.7 and
    earlier. Since changes are required to support Myfaces 2.0
    beyond 2.0.7, APAR PM61211 has been opened and is being
    targeted for WebSphere Application Server 7.0.0.25 to address
    these problems. Tested levels and configuration instructions
    can be found at the following link:

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 7.0.0.19. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
