Error description

The Admin Console description for DB2 JDBC Custom Property:
fullyMaterializeLobData is incorrect. Currently in Admin Console
it says:

Data sources > data_source_name > Custom properties >
fullyMaterializeLobData

  "This setting controls whether or not LOB locators are used to
   fetch LOB data. If enabled, LOB data is not streamed, but is
   fully materialized with locators when the user requests a
   stream on the LOB column. The default value is true."
---

The sentence "... materialized with locators when the user
requests a stream on the LOB column" seems to be incorrect, as
per the DB2 InfoCenter.

The DB2 InfoCenter says:

 "If this setting is disabled [fullyMaterializeLobData], LOB
  data is retrieved 1 with locators when you request a stream on
  the LOB column. "

The documentation for the DB2 datasource custom property
fullyMaterializeLobData on the adminconsole was not clear
and hence we are using this apar to update the
descripton as below :
"The fullyMaterializeLobData custom property determines
whether LOB data is fully materialized in the JDBC driver
when a row is fetched, or is retrieved in pieces as needed.
The actual behavior depends on whether the database server
supports progressive streaming. Refer to your DB2
documentation for more information about this property. The
default value is true."

Problem conclusion

The custom property template has been updated.

The topic "Messaging engine troubleshooting tips" includes
a section titled "Messaging engine does not start up with
a DB2 Universal JDBC type 2 driver". Step 2 of this section
will be updated to include the following information:

The fullyMaterializeLobData custom property determines
whether LOB data is fully materialized in the JDBC driver
when a row is fetched, or is retrieved in pieces as needed.
The actual behavior depends on whether the database server
supports progressive streaming. Refer to your DB2
documentation for more information about this property. The
default value is true.

APAR PM41069 is currently targeted for inclusion in
Service Level 7.0.0.21 and 8.0.0.2 of WebSphere
Application Server.
