Error description
Customers using WebSphere Application Server version 8.0 may encounter an org.apache.openjpa.persistence.ArgumentException during the JPA pre-cleaning process. This can occur due the incorrect injection of overidden references specified with @PersistenceContext and @PersistenceUnit annotations within a Web Application.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server v 8.0.0.0 performing injection * * overrides using @PersistenceUnit or * * @PersistenceContext within web * * applications. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Web application may fail with an * * org.apache.openjpa.persistence.Argument * * Exception caused by an injection * * override. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The software responsible for managing the metadata contained in the @PersistenceContext and @PersistenceUnit annotations failed to recognize injection overrides. This results in incorrect injection targets being passed to the injection engine.
Problem conclusion
An internal component for processing annotations was updated to properly recognize injection overrides from annotations. A work around is possible by editing the web descriptor so that it contains the <persistence-unit> or <persistence-context> stanzas with the desired injection target(s). The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.0.0.1.
