Error description

  • Two Service Component Architecture (SCA) components exist,
    Service1 and Service2. Service1 creates a Service Data Object
(SDO) DataObject and sets a four-character Japanese string as a
value. It passes this DataObject as a method argument to
    Service2. Service2 returns the DataObject unaltered. Service1
then checks the value to see if it is the same as the value it
passed in. The value has been truncated. Only the first
character is returned in the return value DataObject.

This only happens when the value contains characters that are
not in the Latin-1 character set.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When serializing an SDO data object containing several
multi-byte characters, we end up serializing just the
first multi-byte character and the following bytes are ignored
which results in a truncated output.

Problem conclusion

  • The serializer now properly serializes the multi-byte
character sequence and the output is no longer truncated.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
